Essay / Writing Skills In I Stand Here Writing by Nancy Sommers
It became clear to me that her essay was a narrative; however, Sommers managed to compose it in such a way that it remained academic. Generally, if asked what I consider scientific writing, I would answer research projects as well as informational essays. Sommers says, “I’m a writer, not a cook, and the truth is I don’t care much for chicken. Stories beget stories. Writing is born from writing” (420). She is a writer who knows how to paint with her words as she explains in her essays. While reading I Stand Here Writing, I noticed that personal narratives can be just as scholarly as research projects. It doesn't matter what kind of writing it is, as long as it can captivate and inform on its own..
