    Globalization refers to the expansion of global relationships and the integration of different cultures that interact in new ways. Thanks to globalization, people are able to communicate and exchange information. For businesses, this is a purely economic process: “the result of the market system triggered on a global scale” (“Perspective: the demands of globalization”). Globalization has made profit the main objective of large companies, even if the consequences of these large-scale productions, both environmentally and ethically, are often overlooked. This essay will study the consequences of globalization by examining power dilemmas between the nation-state and intercontinental nations, as well as the pursuit of corporate profit that has detrimental effects on cultures and the environment. The shift from globalization to large-scale production has forced companies to move. towards localization, or expansion to other countries, and less standardization. Localization allows corporations to monopolize power over the cultures of other nations. In fact, according to the World Bank's 2000 World Development Report, of the world's 100 largest economic entities, 51 are now corporations and 49 are countries (Anderson, Sarah). National governments have lost their grip on global power. The biggest corporations are now suppressing the combined economies of countries and, not to mention controlling the working conditions of the countries over which they have great influence. Allow these companies to do what they want, charge what they want and pay less than expected. After all, how could they be so powerful without excessive profit?
