    Head injuries are very serious and dangerous. Certain head injuries can cause neurological damage to the brain. They are commonly found in the world of sports, putting athletes at risk. There are many head injuries that are dangerous or could cause serious damage to the brain and, therefore, the body. For this reason, precautions, rules and guidelines must be put in place to prevent and treat these athletes. If these measures are not put in place, it could mean the difference between life and death for these athletes. Many different injuries can occur to the head and face. Facial injuries can be very dangerous as they can involve the eyes, nose and mouth. In 1976 in Scotland, 100,000 people were hospitalized with head injuries. In the UK, there are one million head injuries a year, according to hospital records. “Nearly half of them are children under the age of fourteen and there are more than twice as many men as women. » (Graham). Deaths from head injuries during this period were reported to be approximately nine deaths per hundred thousand injuries. These were reports carried out before and up to 1976 and in the United Kingdom. In American sports, there have been more reported deaths or paralysis from head injuries. In 1904, 19 athletes died or became paralyzed. In 1938, 894 deaths were reported to have been caused by head injuries in athletics (HIS). Theodore Roosevelt actually threatened to ban American football unless changes were made to prevent injuries and deaths caused by the sport. Since then, sports-related head injuries have decreased significantly (HIS). Head injuries can cause death or permanent damage to an athlete for the rest of their life. Facial injuries like hyphema can affect athletes' daily lives due to decreased visual performance. This is why goggles or goggles should be worn when playing sports that involve small round objects. These injuries can be avoided.
