    In every criminal court hearing, there are two sides to a case which are the prosecution and the defense. A defense comes in two forms: a complete defense or a partial defense. A criminal defense is a strategic argument used in our legal systems to defeat a criminal charge. A criminal defense attempts to challenge the legitimacy and sufficiency of the evidence against you (Types of Criminal Defenses, 2014). Therefore, there are five categories of defenses, namely the defenses of denial, procedure, exoneration, excuse and justification. First, there is the defense of denial which is more of a common or generic defense structure. This is usually when the accused refutes part of the evidence or facts of the case. For example, a theft occurred at a local convenience store where cash and merchandise were stolen. There were three accused in the robbery, but one of them claims he did not participate in the robbery because he was unaware of the situation. Another denial defense would be to use an alibi. An alibi defense consists of proof that an accused was somewhere other than the scene of the incident. ...
