    Thesis: The Miranda Rights as they are today are no longer appropriate and must be changed. A young couple is murdered in the middle of the night. The next night, a single mother of two is raped and killed in her apartment. His children murdered alongside him. A killer is on the loose. Citizens are afraid. The police form a task force. Finally, after weeks of investigations and false leads, a suspect is identified and apprehended. The suspect is questioned and eventually confesses to the crimes. The suspect also admits to other murders previously unknown to law enforcement. A few months later, the case came to trial in court. An experienced defense attorney discovers that during the interview, the detective who interviewed the suspect forced him to continue talking, even after the suspect said he did not want to continue the interview. Once this has been brought to the judge's attention, the admission of guilt and any information subsequently obtained is thrown out of court. The result? The killer is released. Is this story fact or fiction? Although the details discussed are fictional, stories like this, with almost identical facts, play out several times a year in courtrooms across the United States. Killers, rapists, drug dealers and many other criminals are being released into our country. Not because they are not guilty, but because they have not been allowed to exercise their right to remain silent. If someone kidnaps your child and the police apprehend a suspect, they should be allowed to do everything possible to solicit information about your child's whereabouts, regardless of the criminal's wishes.
