  • Essay / Social Media in Business - 1576

I was sitting in class for my World Regional Geography class when my professor asked the students, "How many of you here have some form of social media , whether it is Facebook? , Twitter, SnapChat, whatever? Every student in this room raised their hands. The next question she asked was, “How many of you here know someone who doesn’t use any form of social media?” This time, only one person in the room raised their hand. An older student said his grandfather is the only person he knows who doesn't use Facebook, Twitter, or anything else like that. In a classroom full of 50+ students, it's crazy to think that just one person in that room can think off the top of their heads about someone who doesn't use social media. This is the world we live in, dominated by social media, not just in the personal aspects of our lives, but we are all surrounded by the impact of social media on our lives. Let's take a look at the impact of social media on the business world. Websites like Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr have been around for less than a decade. Before the rise of social media, businesses had websites where customers could browse products. Social media makes it easier for businesses to interact with their customers. Before, Facebook and Twitter could communicate primarily by email or telephone. Before social media was a big thing, when you wanted to start a business or market a product, you had to work face-to-face with potential buyers or investors. Now you can simply post your product on Facebook to see what potential customers think of the product, or to get an idea of how it might sell. Advertising, marketing and how we communicate within the business world...... middle of paper......ny, whether it is what it sells, what status of customer service or customer reviews. You can find almost anything you want to know if you look hard enough. Businesses use social media to communicate, market, advertise, track trends, and ensure they are doing what they need to do to keep their customers happy. They want the strongest brand possible, and they can create it through the use of social media. Social networks in the business world are a game changer!
