Atop her stands our maritime mark, / The leafy crests of Mount Neriton sparkle in the wind. / Around it, a ring of islands turn side by side, / Dulichion, the same, Zacynthus wooded too, but mine / is low and distant, furthest from the sea, "says Odysseus that he has just come from a place called Ithaca, an island that is part of a ring of islands. Ithaca was a green mountain which can be inferred to be green at all times because he describes Ithaca as sunny. It could also be inferred that when he uses the word sunny it reminds him of happier times, as the color yellow linked to the psychological could represent cowardice, deception, sunlight, optimism, happiness and/ or heat. Because Odysseus' use of the word sunny reminds us of sunlight which, by reminding us of yellow, rejects the psychological association of cowardice and deception. He also states that his island is the furthest from the sea than the other islands which are Dulichion, Same and Zacynthus. In lines 28 and 29 he describes how the sun rises in the other kingdom in relation to his kingdom. This could be because Odysseus would like to see the sunset over his kingdom and know that his long journey is over. Then Odysseus declares: “My country is rugged but suitable for the education of sons – / and I myself know no sweeter landscape on earth / than the native land of a man. » (30-33).
