Ohio State is failing its students with some of the lowest test scores in our nation. According to OSU Research News, journalist Doug Downey states that "up to three-quarters of U.S. schools are considered failing based on achievement test scores and would receive passing grades if assessed using less biased measurement, new study suggests” (“Many Failing Schools” “Teachers don’t fail when they are measured by their impact rather than their results” par. 1). Above all, teachers feel like they are just teaching students how to do well on assessment tests. As a result, some students feel stressed and frustrated, as if they are just succeeding. These are practices and studies on how to pass achievement tests. Additionally, with the economy affecting property taxes, which have declined in recent years, this has affected school funding, Ohioans are starting to see more states moving toward a system of annual teaching. As a result, Ohio is failing its students when it comes to education, due to a lack of state funding, classroom time, and quality teachers. First, let's start with the problem facing Ohio's education and how its funding has some causes for Ohio's students to fall. behind.
