  • Essay / Villain or Black Knight - 941

Villain or Black KnightChristopher Dorner, an exemplary soldier who became a triple murderer. From the National Defense Service Medal to the rifle marksmanship ribbon, Dorner was a classic soldier (honors). After filing a report against a fellow LAPD officer, Dorner was fired from the department. Shortly after being fired, Dorner was charged with the murder of a police officer and 2 citizens, as well as the attempted murder of 3 other citizens. Nicknamed the Cop Killer, Dorner has been vilified by the media, yet there is a select group that supports Dorner. Two different views have emerged on Chris Dorner, with some calling him horrible while others calling him the "Dark Knight." In early August, Chris Dorner filed an abuse complaint against his patrol partner Teresa Evans. Evans was acquitted and a reversion charge was presented against Dorner. Chris Dorner was convicted and his police career ended on September 4, 2008. Until January, Dorner continued to appeal, without success. On February 3, 2013, Monica Quan and her fiancé Keith Lawrence were found shot to death in an Irvine parking lot. Monica Quan was the daughter of former LAPD Captain Randal Quan who had represented Dorner in the case that resulted in his dismissal from the LAPD in 2009. On February 11, 2013, the Riverside District Attorney filed charges against Dorner for the murder of a Monica Quan. and the attempted murder of three other police officers. “These charges made Dorner eligible for the death penalty” (death penalty). While searching for Dorner, police fired approximately 100 shots at a blue Ochoa Toyota pickup truck, 2 after it was mistaken for Dorner's truck. "A million dollar reward was announced by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for information leading to... middle of paper ...... ss B uniform that did not feature a tie. It was clear that people had lied on behalf of Agent Evans. “Why did you feel the need to embellish and lie about your involvement in the UOF” (Dorner, age 4)? Chris said he crossed the "blue line" and was fired as a result. Chris says his former sergeant Maggie Faust warned him long ago against "joining the LAPD because they were 'different' and operated differently than other modern law enforcement agencies" (Dorner, 14). Dorner continues to opine on everything and gives an overview of the whole situation in his manifesto which I highly suggest taking a few minutes to read. There are certainly two ways to look at this situation. It's understandable why he was so angry, but that still doesn't justify the murders he planned to commit or committed. Even if you support Christopher Dorner, you cannot support his actions..
