Who ever said Barbie was perfect as ice cream on a hot summer day? In today's society, adolescents are deeply influenced by the media; this includes celebrities, social media, blogs and much more. However, beauty has always been highly valued. In literature, being attractive often indicated an admirable protagonist, while being ugly indicated an abominable antagonist. Because cosmetic surgery is promoted worldwide, teenagers have no choice but to also promote cosmetic surgery. The demand for cosmetic surgery is inevitable and is gradually increasing. According to the National Clearinghouse of Plastic Surgery Statistics, Americans spent $11.5 billion on 11 million cosmetic procedures in 2006, a 48 percent increase from the number done in 2000. Social media is propaganda in favor of cosmetic surgery, they paint a delicate and unrealistic picture. however, they seem to limit the negative effects. What is the price of beauty? Cosmetic surgery has long-term harm, is addictive, and is only temporary. Despite its positive effects on beauty, plastic surgery remains dangerous. Since each individual's body acts differently, complications are possible. While patients are sedated, they can potentially suffer nerve damage, paralysis, heart attack, or even stroke. Those who experience nerve damage may also experience constant tingling. Unfortunately, excessive amounts of blood are lost, which may require additional surgical procedures if blood accumulates under the skin.
