Essay / The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson - 1082
Human; relating to or having characteristics of a person (Merriam-Webster). A human is actually just a soul combined with the characteristics of other people, and this is proven by Jenna Fox; the main character of The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson. After discovering what her body is made of, Jenna and other characters believe she is not human. Despite this, Jenna Fox has always had the key elements needed to be a human being. Jenna, on the other hand, has a past and memories that make up her life even after the accident. More importantly, it's unfair to label her a "monster" when she exhibits similar characteristics to other humans. Needless to say, Jenna, like any other human, is not perfect, and she later learns that to be one hundred percent human, she must have the same opportunity to succeed in life as any other human. Jenna Fox is human because she has a soul regardless of her differences. Jenna has a past and memories that make up who she is, regardless of the Jenna she was before the accident. Memories are vital because they constitute an identity and every human being has an identity. After waking up from the coma, Jenna does not know her identity, leading her to believe that she is not human. When Jenna began to remember who she once was, Jenna reverted to her old personality. Jenna shows this when she asks Lily for help and Lily says, "Why are you telling me this and not your parents?" I'm surprised she asked. Is she testing me? We both know the answer. Because I always have” (Pearson 186). Jenna's identity makes her who she is. She remembered the close bond she once had with Lily and regained a small part of Jenna Fox's identity. More importantly, Jenna realizes that she still has the same memories as before ... middle of paper ... she finally realized that her daughter was human and was born to make mistakes. Jenna turns out to be a human because she has the most important elements of a human. Because of three key human elements that Jenna Fox exhibits throughout the book, she can be considered human. Jenna shows that she has memories; an essential element in deciding your identity. Jenna demonstrates human characteristics, an element that ensures she is not a robot. The last key element that Jenna ultimately demonstrates is the element of being unique and demonstrating that she has the same opportunity to succeed as any other human being. These elements all combine to form a human, and no matter how many artificial body parts one may have with these elements, it is a real human. Even if you are different from others, you can still be considered human as Jenna Fox proves..
