Athlete's foot is a type of infectious disease caused by an organism. Athlete's foot is a very irritating fungal foot infection that can easily be treated and prevented. What is athlete's foot? Athlete's foot is known as a fungal infection of the skin or foot. The two most common names for athlete's foot are tinea pedis and tinea (Athlete's Medline). “Athlete's foot…usually starts between the toes. This most often occurs in people whose feet sweat a lot while confined in tight-fitting shoes” (Athlete's Mayo). Red, scaly rashes are often very common when it comes to athlete's foot. These rashes usually start between the toes; however, they can spread to other parts of the body (athlete's foot). Most cases of athlete's foot are caused by fungi.
