In Joel L. Swerdlow's 2001 essay, "Changing America," he writes about current cultural differences between high school children. He goes on to explain how you can bring together a wide variety of kids, from all over the world, and still somehow manage to develop the same "American teenager" attitude toward life. The essay recounts how people viewed America as a "melting pot" of nations and how, over time, this view begins to change. America was founded on change. Past revolutions were carried out to create new ways of living in this country. Our families all came to America, at some point, to fuel this definition of being American. In my mind, the term “melting pot” means structure, which is what we Americans are made of. Many ethnic origins have made up our country. So as more people migrate to America and stand up for the changes they believe in, this country will only continue to get stronger. What does it mean to be a teenager? Teenagers will tell you that they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. This is not the case...
