“Revenge is a dish best served cold. » This famous saying is an ancient proverb that has persisted for centuries. The expression describes that the best return on investment is the one that comes with planning; revenge is bringing the most horrible pain to your enemies when they least expect it. In the play Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, Hamlet discovers that his uncle, Claudius, poisoned his father, the late King Hamlet, in order to steal his crown. Not only did his uncle usurp his father's throne, but he also married Hamlet's mother, Queen Gertrude. After encountering a ghost who claimed to be his father, Hamlet is tasked by the ghost to take revenge on his uncle. Hamlet is enraged by cases of murder, incest, betrayal and deception, which he quickly carries out with his orders. Vengeance is a dominant theme depicted in Hamlet, influencing trust between characters, leading to falls and deaths. The tragedy Hamlet revolves around three large families. Each of the family's eldest sons had one thing in common: they wanted revenge for a massacred father. Hamlet's main goal was to make his uncle suffer more than his father, so that his revenge would be complete. In Act 3, Scene 3, Hamlet had the perfect opportunity to kill Claudius, but because of Hamlet's religious beliefs, he hesitated. Since Claudius was praying, Hamlet decided to wait until the moment Claudius committed a sin to execute him instead. Hamlet believed that the action you committed just before death would determine whether you entered heaven or hell. He was not in favor of the idea of Claude entering heaven, so he decided to kill, "when he is drunk, asleep, or in his rage, or in the incestuous pleasure of......in the middle paper..... .s him new ruler of Denmark before his death, and Fortinbras regains all his father's lost lands and becomes king of Denmark. Fortinbras ends victoriously! With the fathers of the three great families having all been murdered, the eldest sons of these families have all sworn revenge. But unfortunately, due to lack of intelligence and angry and distraught behavior, two of the three sons died. As a theme, revenge was present in all parts of the play. It is ironic that Claudius, Laertes, and Hamlet all died by the same sword. Revenge was the driving force for three of the play's main characters: for two, it led to downfall and for the other, to greatness. Hamlet is a great example in reminding us not to set out to take revenge because it will only hurt us in the end. Instead, the best revenge is to strive to give your best and achieve success..
