Essay / The Causes and Effects of Stereotypes - 1282
Stereotypes, which can be used in both positive and negative ways, are something that everyone uses on a daily basis; it shows up in our humor, the way people describe themselves, and our beliefs. People stereotype without knowing it; it's a way we use to help us understand a group. The problem with stereotypes is that it is a personal opinion about a group and not an individual. Everyone has their own unique and distinct personality, just like everyone has their own fingerprints. It is therefore unfair to be judged quickly by people who do not know others as individuals. Everyone is a victim of stereotypes and has been stereotyped before. This is a global problem that can be easily solved, but it persists every day. Teenagers are constantly stereotyped by adults...... middle of newspaper......and widespread opinion. Courses such as ethnic studies and even a foreign language can provide good information about a particular race. There are many ways to combat stereotypes, but the simplest and best is to get to know a person and seek knowledge. Stereotypes are everywhere and are used by everyone, it is a way of understanding and treating our environment. It has long existed in history through religion, politics and the most influential media and still exists today. The planet may be taking dramatic steps to improve, but stereotypes persist. Positive steps to end stereotyping, like getting to know someone better, can really help reduce the problem and hopefully the future will have fewer of them. Although no one can truly know everyone they meet, knowledge and a little patience can help people understand each other better...
