Essay / Ben Journal of an Analysis of Heroin Addiction - 1117
Ben's addiction to heroin has had a huge impact on his social life. Due to his addiction, he had no real friends. He associated with other addicts and people who did not object to his use. His own family, although they loved him, repeatedly didn't want him around because of his habit. His sister said she didn't want to come to family gatherings because she knew there would be a "problem with Ben." Additionally, the parents stopped having guests over because Ben repeatedly caused scenes while the guests were home and the guest had to leave early. In my opinion, one of the biggest social impacts Ben suffered was the loss of his girlfriend. At one point, Ben had a relationship with a high school friend who would not live with him until he was able to stop using heroin. Although his family said they believed that if anything would have gotten him arrested, it was his girlfriend, although she wasn't enough to get him arrested. Ben lied to her over and over and even stole from her. On several occasions, she called her parents crying because the situation was too overwhelming. After realizing how dependent and unwilling to leave Ben, she finally left him, which caused him to sink even deeper into her heart.
