Human trafficking is modern slavery, it involves the taking of control of a person through force, fraud or coercion to exploit the victim for forced labor or sexual exploitation. or both (“What” par.1). This has become the sad reality for many: around three people in a thousand in the world are forced into this slavery. Victims of human trafficking include people from all backgrounds and ages, no one is safe from the dirty hands of human traffickers. Every year, thousands of men, women and children are forced into human trafficking. The public must be informed, strengthen sanctions against offenders and raise awareness to finally put an end to these horrible crimes happening under our noses. the third largest international criminal industry is behind illegal drug and arms trafficking (“11 Facts” p. 2). The International Labor Organization estimates that women and girls account for the largest share of victims of forced labor, with 11.4 million trafficked, compared to 9.5 million men ( ). Trafficking takes many forms, forcing victims into prostitution, subjecting victims to slavery or involuntary servitude, forcing victims to perform sexual acts for the purpose of creating pornography, and misleading victims into debt bondage (11 Facts. Pg 2). According to federal reports, 14,500 to 17,500 victims are trafficked into the United States each year (What is Human Trafficking. Pg 2). Traffickers often forge new birth certificates, passports and driver's licenses of their victims, making it almost impossible for them to... middle of paper ... more often than many people realize, and it is it is not only an international or national problem, it is also a local problem. Human trafficking is a big business, involving many perpetrators and victims. In order to stop this growing and thriving criminal trade, the public must be informed, strengthen prosecutions and law enforcement; help victims recover and reintegrate into society.
