Essay / Using Networks to Develop a Smart Home - 1059
INTRODUCTION A network is a collection of communication devices connected by cable or wireless to other media links. Common network types are Personal Area Network (PAN), Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN). Instead of a LAN, a PAN can also be built using wired or wireless technology. In this assignment I will focus on Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) which is implemented IEEE 802.15 standard based on smart home environment which would allow an elderly person to stay at home, instead of a care center health, so that she can live independently. . So this is an opportunity for us to explore, design and build a network infrastructure using our basic knowledge of data communications and computer networking. for seniors who monitor and control the functions of their home. And today, the smart home is becoming intelligent because its computer systems can monitor many aspects of daily life. For example, they can control lighting, temperature, multimedia, security, window and door operation, and many other functions. Smart home systems could also take care of cleaning, health or security. Coded signals are sent to programmed switches and outlets to operate appliances and electronics in all areas of the home. Home automation can be particularly useful for elderly and disabled people who want to live independently. So here we need to use our knowledge of data communications and computer networking to explore and design a suitable network configuration for a smart home environment that would enable...... middle of paper ...... applications. In smart home also provide remote interface with home appliances or automation system with wireless transmission to internet, to enable control and monitoring of all devices via touchpad, keypad or remote control ( from the outside). Therefore, the safety of residents is better guaranteed through the system and technology. When all devices are connected to the network, they will work normally and allow the elderly to live independently instead of a health care center. There are a variety of smart home technologies that are easily accepted by older adults. The feasibility of smart technologies can be improved by addressing issues related to security and privacy. Although the results and cost-effectiveness of these forms of technology remain to be evaluated, they appear to show some potential to help older adults live longer, safely and independently in their own homes...
