Essay / The Three Principles of Nutrition - 1891
My goal is to continue to keep a food journal to ensure I am regulating the nutrients I need and the nutrients I need to decrease for overall health. In addition to improving my overall health, I want to improve my body mass index (BMI). At 5'9 and 165ft, my BMI is 24.4. This is a normal BMI. I am very comfortable with my appearance but would like to lower my BMI for a better cosmetic appearance and to have a healthier weight for my body. My goal weight is under 160 pounds. With my actual calorie intake of around 2,100 calories, I plan to reduce my intake to 1,600 calories per day to try to lose a pound per week. My current diet does not respect the three principles of balance, variety and moderation. I need to be more mindful of my fat intake to ensure I balance carbohydrates, proteins and fats in the recommended proportions. Additionally, I have to create new breakfast and lunch menus instead of my typical meals which don't lead to any variety. Through intake analysis, I recognized what I was doing wrong and what I needed to do to correct my food intake to reach an optimal level.
