In recent years, obesity has become a major problem in society. Obesity not only affects people's physical lifestyle, but also their mental lifestyle. People are starting to wonder why today's generation struggles with excess weight issues so much more than previous generations. Many people who have studied the issue of obesity and poor diet have attributed the problem to laziness and unhealthy eating habits. The solution to this problem is not as simple as it seems. You might think that being more active and eating healthier is an easy solution to the problem of obesity; However, the solution is much more complicated. People tend to blame obesity on people who make poor lifestyle choices. For example, eating a Big Mac from McDonald's instead of eating a turkey sandwich, or eating a bag of Doritos instead of eating fresh fruit. For some people, the only obstacle to a healthy lifestyle is deciding to put down the bag of chips and pick up the carrot sticks. For many others, the barrier to adopting a healthy lifestyle is not as simple as having to pay the extra amount it costs to obtain these nutritious foods. Professor Ward from Flinders University addressed the situation well in "With obesity on the rise, governments tend to focus their attention on telling people to eat healthily, but the problem is that more healthy foods become unaffordable, the more difficult it becomes for individuals to opt for a healthy diet. ยป It's easy for society to point the finger at individuals and say it's their fault for not eating healthily, but because of the cost of...... middle of paper .... .
