    As the class time increases from 6 to 8 hours per day, the extra 2 hours must be used well to reach their potential, otherwise there will only be 2 extra hours wasted. Trachtenberg suggests giving teachers more preparation time and letting students participate in other activities (214), but which ones? Activities often require teacher supervision. Those supervising activities will need more time to care for students and will have little time to prepare. If the additional time only benefits teachers, it is not the school schedule that is modified, but rather the teachers' work schedules. The 8-hour school schedule is proposed to serve students, or teachers? Even if we allocate one hour each, how can you guarantee that students will enjoy participating in these activities? Maybe some just want to relax or spend time with family. The extended schedule could cause these students to hate being at school more, creating the opposite effect.
