  • Essay / Leonardo da Vinci: The Renaissance Man - 796

Leonardo da Vinci could be considered one of the most famous people of the Renaissance and one of the greatest painters of all time. Leonardo is talented and has made many contributions throughout his life. He did so many things like painting, anatomy, mechanics and architecture. And this is one of the reasons why the Renaissance era can be considered one of the greatest periods in history. Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452, the son of Ser Piero and Caterina. Leonardo's father was a landowner and his mother was a peasant and they were both unmarried at the time. Leonardo lived with his father and had an education. Later his father moved the family to Florence (Heydenreich). At the age of 15, Leonardo showed that he was a great painter. In 1467, he became the apprentice of Andrea Del Verrochio, a very well-known artist at that time. He became a member of Verrochio's workshop where he received training in a wide variety of fields (Giorgio). In another workshop of Antonio Pollaiuolo, Leonardo studied anatomy and animals. He was accepted into the painters' guild of Florence. One of Leonardo's earliest works was a painting of an angel for the Baptism of Christ artwork. After Verrochio saw the work, he thought it was time for Leonardo to move on and do something else. Leonardo later became a freelance painter and later moved to Milan where he worked for Ludovico Sforza. During this period, Leonardo created one of his most famous works, The Last Supper. Later in his career, he became a journalist in which he recorded his observations and discoveries. His notes showed that he knew how rocks were formed. He was also fascinated by fossils and how to dig tunnels through mountains. (Weingardt). Years... middle of paper... centuries later. Leonardo Da Vici was a great thinker and he was way ahead of his time in what he did and without some of the things that he did, our civilization, as a civilization, would not have some of the things that we we have today. His works have greatly influenced the world today and changed the way people do things. Work cited Ludwig Heinrich, Heydenreich. “Leonardo Da Vinci.” Britannica Biographies (2012): 1.
