  • Essay / The Innovation of TCP/IP - 2193

This article is about a pioneer in computing before the 1990s. A pioneer in computing is a person who has had an impact on the development or improvement of the computer. The paper will discuss the legacy of the computing pioneer and how it affected the change in computers. The subject of this article is TCP/IP and its designers, Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn. TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, which is the Internet protocol. In a private network, TCP/IP can be used as a communications protocol; TCP/IP can be an intranet or an extranet. A computer receives a copy of the TCP/IP program when it is configured with direct access to the Internet. (“What is TCP/IP” TCP/IP is a two-layer program. The upper layer is the transmission control protocol. TCP manages the assembly of a message or file into packets more small packers are transmitted over the Internet. Then the packers are received by a TCP layer which reassembles the packets into the original message. The Internet protocol manages the packet's address. the packet arrives at the correct destination. Each gateway computer in the network checks the address to see where it should forward the message. A message contains packets that are routed differently from other packets in the message; “What is TCP/IP” TCP/IP is a client/server model TCP/IP communication is point-to-point; each communication takes place from one point on the network to another TCP/IP point. and other applications that use TCP/IP are considered "stateless." It is “stateless” because each client request is not linked to any previous request. The network path is freed because of...... middle of paper ....... If Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf hadn't invented TCP/IP, the Internet probably wouldn't be the same as it is Today. Works Cited "Nerds 2.0.1 - Surfing the Net". PBS: Public Broadcasting Service.
