Essay / Similarities in the artworks of Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt...
The artworks of Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Aegean cultures, and Ancient Greece have similarities that reflect not only objects and images, but also media, style and representation. These countries weren't always rich, intelligent, creative, and powerful enough to supply themselves, but they all found ways to create art with what they had. They have all influenced their respective cultures and beliefs through their values and artistic methods, ranging from the materials and tools they use, to the position and representation of their monuments and their religious intention. Mesopotamia's first invention was a form of writing called cuneiform which was written on clay tablets with a pointed reed called a stylus. This allowed events to be recorded and formal laws to be written. The Sumerians, a civilization in Mesopotamia, designed the wheel which was used to transfer heavy objects to and from places. They also began to build daggers, spears and chariots, which allowed them to win victorious wars. The Mesopotamians were also responsible for the first laws and discoveries of glass, sailing ships and ziggurats. With a great interest in religion and mythology, the Sumerians and their successors worshiped gods and goddesses, much like the Egyptian, Greek and Aegean cultures. Like the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians also believed in gods and goddesses and were one of the first to develop their unique writing system. called hieroglyphs. The Egyptians were also the first to build triangular pyramids with magnificent tombs to bury their dead pharaohs and queens. These pyramids were very comparable to the ziggurats built by the Mesopotamians. The Egyptians opened up more access when they began using papyrus to make paper to communicate. They also invented...... middle of paper ......had the Karnak and the Luxor, both of which they used for religious events. Some of the main differences between the two periods concerned the sculptures. Overall, artwork from Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, Aegean cultures, and ancient Greece have similarities that reflect not only objects and images, but also media, style, and representation. these cultures are very exclusive works ranging from triangular representations of shapes, to aerial representations of nature, to robust architectural innovations for their citadels.
