Violence between strangers is random, unpredictable and can happen anywhere. Additionally, there is no clear link between the victims and the suspects. This does not mean that the situations are completely spontaneous. Predators can follow certain locations, such as ATMs, fast food restaurants, and shopping malls, in order to find the right target. Targets are selected for their innocence and naive nature. Predators target these individuals because they want what the individual has (Meadows, 2010). There are a number of factors that add to the potential for stranger violence, including "going to an ATM, driving through an empty parking lot, driving an expensive car, inadvertently cutting someone off in traffic, or wearing clothing or expensive jewelryā€¯ (Meadows, 2010). , p.111). The level of victimization can range from serious injury, sexual assault, and even death (Meadows, 2010). There are a number of factors that give rise to violence between strangers. The following will discuss factors associated with theft, carjacking, and spontaneous murder. Theft involves taking property from an individual by using force or, at a minimum, threatening to use force. The use of force does not necessarily mean that a weapon was used, but it does not eliminate the possibility. Data from the Uniform Crime Report shows that only 28 percent of robbery victims knew who the offender was. Additionally, it was reported that the thefts took place when the victims were shopping or traveling. There is also an association between robbery victimization and the victim's lifestyle and living conditions. Despite what one might think, it is actually poor families who are most often victims of theft. The...... middle of paper...... and avoid getting caught in an altercation. There are no limits to how people can be victimized. The potential becomes even greater when the attacker is a complete stranger. This is why it is important for people to take the initiative and become a less attractive target. When it comes to theft, better home security and more random behavior can help. In general, people need to be aware of their surroundings. There is no way to predict violence between strangers. However, people can take steps to avoid becoming a target.
