Nicole Cook (C3840943) – TMA 01Describing some inequalities on City RoadIn the light of the study material, I have studied that I am able to describe and describe some inequalities on City Road . In this essay, I have highlighted three specific inequalities on City Road. Firstly I described the Auto Trader newsagents, secondly the Taste Buds Café and finally the Mackintosh Centre. The Auto Trader first opened its doors in the 1930s, it is a local family business and the current owner Colin Butwell has worked there since 1965. Before His father had run the newsagents since 1946. In the document we can see that Lloyd Robson interviews Colin Butwell about 'How has the type of business been affected by the arrival of all the big boys, like Tesco (The Street, 2009, Scene 2). In this DVD footage you can see that his stock is very limited and is a very traditional store where he sells puncture kits, rubber bands and gun caps. As Lloyd Robson says: "Ah, I got in so much trouble for that when I was a kid", but Colin Butwell can clearly show that there are no longer a high percentage of children in the area and that they prefer to play on their Playstation than to play with traditional toys (The Street, 2009, scene 3). In the DVD we can see an interviewer asking a woman "what kind of things do you buy here?" » The woman was buying ingredients to make a chocolate cake, but she couldn't find anything on City Road and ended up shopping at Tesco, where she clearly states: "I prefer to buy local, from local businesses, but I wasn’t really happy.” about the opening of Tesco on this street” (The Street, 2009, scene 3). Unfortunately, Mr Butwell Tesco is a much easier way to buy students like...... middle of paper ......es {DVD}, Milton Keynes, The Open UniversityBlakeley, G., Bromley, G., Clarke, J., Raghurham, P., Silva, E. and Taylor, S. I enjoyed meeting new people and enjoyed the open day in Cardiff this week. It helped me regain confidence in my studies. What did you find difficult? I think I did well on this module, but since I've never done an assignment, I feel anxious about it. I'm glad you found the Day School to be useful, it's good to meet other DD101 students and I hope you can continue to do so as the course progresses. Now that you have submitted this assignment, I am sure you will feel more confident to continue with the course..
