More than 25% of Americans eat fast food every day and more than $100 billion is spent on fast food every year. All you think about is its convenience and taste, but have you ever wondered how it is made and what effects it has on you? Fast foods are prepared with high levels of sodium and fat, which keeps people coming back for more. Fast food is a bigger part of the American diet than you might think. These frequently consumed meals lead to many negative effects on us, including health problems, poor environment, and social problems. People all over the world suffer from obesity and heart disease, two of the leading causes of death today. Every breath you take may contain polluted air from chemicals used in the manufacturing of fast food packaging. Yet even with all this negativity towards fast food, it still has a silver lining in bringing money into the United States economy. Therefore, fast food consumption not only brings bad but also good. Fast food plays an important role in the health of Americans today. Obesity is one of the world's leading health problems among people of all ages today. More than two-thirds of adults and about a fifth of all children are now overweight or obese. One in three Americans face obesity and this is mainly due to the unhealthy foods that people consume on a daily basis. Fast foods have high levels of sugar and fat, which are the main causes of obesity. From these fats and sugars, calories are absorbed, and when not burned, they are stored as extra fat, leading to overweight in many people. Obesity is also the beginning of many other diseases and health problems. One of them would be type 2 diabetes.
