Essay / The influence of physical attractiveness on teaching...
A person who looks good always has the upper hand. Based on Langlois et. al (2000), physically attractive people are often treated favorably and are more liked by others (p. 644). It's no surprise that a good-looking person benefits more from everyday workplace interactions than an unattractive person. From luxury goods to glamorous jobs, many cultures and media often emphasize that physical attractiveness can be very beneficial and important in a person's life. If it can bring positive aspects to the individual, can a person who interacts with it also benefit from it? In particular, will students be able to succeed academically by being taught by physical attractiveness teachers? Teachers play a vital and important role in students' school lives, which can influence their interest in school and their academic performance. For example, Siegle (2013) explains that students were more willing to put effort into their work if they saw their teachers doing the same (p. 45). While most studies focus on the characteristics and teaching styles of teachers, this research aims to unveil another element that can have an influence on students and which can further improve the knowledge of the characteristics that students look for in a teacher. As such, it can be beneficial in discovering ways to improve educational systems and the elements surrounding it. The Importance of Physical Attractiveness The influence of physical attractiveness on people Dion, Berscheid and Walster said: “What is beautiful is also apparently healthy, rich and wise. » (1972, p. 638). For centuries, humans have associated many positive aspects of life with physical attractiveness. People who are...... middle of paper ......bal messages (e.g. gaze) which are not included in the study and which could possibly have an influence on the students. Thus, this research can be improved in several ways. The study can introduce a properly structured test that can be decoded based on the variables so that the results are consistent. Although videotaped lectures may make the study more controlled, future research might consider considering actual observations rather than videotaped observations. Future studies can look for other elements related to physical attractiveness, such as social attractiveness or body language, and determine whether this will affect different aspects of students, from their grades to their relationships with teachers. Gender and cultural differences can also be observed to see differences in what different cultures and both genders look for in a teacher..
