HP: Potentials and limitationsNameSchoolHewlett-Packard has long been considered one of the companies at the forefront of the campaign for sustainable industry and responsible waste management. With the ICT (information and communications technology) sector contributing approximately 2% of the global carbon footprint, Hewlett-Packard has completely transformed its organizational structure to incorporate sustainability concepts. For example, responsible water consumption, optimization of conference calling technologies, recycling, etc., have been included in Hewlett-Packard's daily operations. However, for Hewlett-Packard, sustainability is more than a banner to increase profitability and cosmeticize the brand. . HP recognizes that “sustainability, profitability and efficiency go hand in hand. “Thus, in addition to integrating environmentally friendly strategies and practices into organizational dynamics, HP recognizes that environmental awareness also stimulates the development of organizational effectiveness. An example of this is HP's maximization of its supply chain, which actually streamlines the flow of raw materials in the manufacturing process. Furthermore, due to HP's intention towards environmental concerns, key players and innovators within the organization are also driven to innovate and thus create and develop new products within the environmental paradigm of HP. Resources and Limitations One of HP's innovation efforts includes innovations in their use of resources. One such innovation is the development of transparent transistor technology which uses inexpensive and highly efficient materials such as tin and zinc. With minimal impact on the environment, these materials also allow HP faster mobility of resources around the world, from the medium of paper to the development of more portable systems and devices such as tablets. Although maintaining its current identity may be enough for passable growth and survival of the business, it can only achieve maximum growth if it fully adapts to the changing market environment. However, this involves new challenges and changes that would not be easy to overcome, but which, alternatively, holds much more promise for the ICT giant.
