    The adaptation of legs to fins and tail aims to make swimming faster and easier in water. The blowhole slowly moved to the top of the head, making it easier to breathe while swimming. Whales also evolved blubber, which we use as energy when food is scarce or on long journeys. To survive in the ocean, whales have had to adapt their lungs, so they can breathe more easily and hold their breath for long periods of time when submerged underwater (Whale Evolution and Adaptation, n.d.).
