  • Essay / Single Event Trauma Essay - 1382

Although Amy successfully fights it, the impact of the event is severe. Amy is a young Christian woman who was saving herself for marriage and feels severe trauma from this event. It becomes increasingly difficult for Amy to deal with her trauma. She has difficulty getting to work and feels shaky and nervous around men. Nightmares torment her and create symptoms of insomnia. As a result, Amy begins to turn to a nightcap of vodka just before bed to help calm her nerves. However, this last drink is not enough. Soon she was drinking a few shots of vodka every day to calm her nerves. Soon she was drinking half a pint, a pint, then almost a fifth of vodka every day. For Amy, this alcohol eliminated the negative emotions caused by her trauma. At least that's what she thinks: these problems are still deeply buried and force her to drink. Unfortunately, this type of cycle is common among people who suffer even one traumatic event.
