Essay / Comparing Medea to the story of Jove and Io
The ending of Medea to the story of Jupiter and Io is similar and different in many ways. Medea rode off into the sunset in the chariot of the gods, and Io was transformed into a cow, but was later returned to her. We wanted to leave; the other had no choice but to transform into an animal. The stories intertwine on some points which will be discussed, and others which are very different. Medea was married to Jason and had two children with him, so while she thought her world was all she could want, it didn't really turn out to be perfect. . Jason was bewitched to fall in love with Medea so that she would help him conclude his journey and kill for the gold leaks, which he succeeds in. When he returned, he had already found a wife besides Medea, and this time it was perfectly normal to marry another wife. Medea sought revenge by killing his two children and his future wife, so she left Jason with nothing. Medea then rode off into the sunset in a chariot near the gods. The story of Jove and Io was about a young man who was married to Juno but had an affair with Io. Juno discovered that Jupiter and Io were having an affair and when she finds out, she goes looking for Jove and Europa. When Jupiter finds out she's coming, he turns Io into a cow so Juno won't hurt her. She goes down and asks him where the heifer came from and where; he then answered by saying that he had come out of the earth and been born. Juno not believing the story he has just told, she asks for the cow as a gift. As hesitant as he is, Jove accepts and gives him the cow. Juno then seeks revenge by sending Io to Argus, "the guardian with a thousand eyes, in strict rotation, his eyes slept in pairs, while those that did not sleep...... middle of paper.... ..to Argus, friend of Juno.Medea has a conversation with Jason at the end of the story he tells her that he hoped the children would bring him curses she looks at him and says “the gods know who is; the author of this sorrow". (Lawall 719) Medea killed her children and yet she blames him for doing it. The conversation got even uglier and ended with her leaving. The endings are somewhat similar in the fact that Io became human again and rejoiced with her fellows and welcomed a son from Jupiter Medea was sent on a chariot by the gods with no questions asked about what she had. Medea didn't have a happy ending, but for her, she struggled to leave Corinth, Jason was left with nothing, Medea, and Io were both interesting stories to read as the reader discovers. betrayal, loss and a resolution for most people in the story..
