Essay / In N Out Burger Sending Religious Messages - 924
In N Out is a popular chain of hamburger restaurants residing in California, Nevada and Arizona. I didn't know it lately, but this fast food place isn't just hiding on the west coast. Now operating around 140 points of sale, this family business seems to be hiding something of its own. Casual, sharp-eyed customers have noticed cryptic name and number notations on burger wrappers and disposable cups. These mysterious marks indicate biblical passages. Founded in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder, the current restaurant chain is still under the control of the Snyder family. The Snyders are a religious family, and with their continued family ownership, they can put whatever they want on the packaging of their products. As far as proselytizing goes, it's as discreet as possible; the texts of the verses are not even printed. Those who wish to absorb the messages should do so using their own Bible. Using this, the Snyders spread Christianity through the subconscious minds of their customers and connect religion and food in one convenient restaurant. This small act of spreading religious belief uses classic words of conditioning, obfuscation and virtue. With classical conditioning, fast food, often comforting to many people, is present to accompany the biblical notations. Since the ratings are always present when food is present and food causes a positive physical reaction, then when we are presented with the ratings when food is not present, we will experience the same feelings. Basically, associating good food with biblical notations causes a positive reaction to both, whether combined or separate. In this way, the Snyders attempt to share their religion and put it in a positive light...... middle of paper ......aving.In conclusion, the Snyders have successfully completed their mission. The mere fact that an entire essay was written analyzing their ability to make the client (in this case me) think about religion (as I do) proves this to be correct. Although the only religious reference is a simple notation of a biblical passage, the weight of Christianity looms large behind so few letters. Additionally, the customer associates the saltiness of fries with the virtue he feels when considering religion. The two together create a wonderful blend of positive thinking.
