    I remember thinking "This will be easy. It will be just like the exchange students at school." As I was immersed in culture shock the next day, those feelings were called into question. These girls, most of whom were from China, barely spoke English, much less understood what I was articulating. Most of the time they only spoke Chinese in the kitchen and I stood there like a foreigner in my own country. The more we got to know each other, the more I discovered their differences from the exchange students I met at school. These young women, mostly in their 20s, had never worked in their lives, which gave them little work ethic. They only strove to complete the menial tasks assigned to them, but they were still considered the middle class of their country. I was so used to exchange students at school who worked hard in class and always did their best, not the other way around. They were completely shocked when they found out that I, who is three or four years younger than them, was working two jobs. As I saw them when they were off duty, they wore modest clothing, not the same outfit as me, and as we worked side by side you could tell we were from totally different backgrounds..
