Some boys were sitting on a bench and smoking cigarettes. I didn't understand this because in the United States, it is forbidden to smoke on school grounds, especially when a young high school student does it. I was amazed at how casual everything seemed. No one was rushing to get to class and it felt more like a social gathering than kids going to school. It was hot as always, so everyone was outside. I remember walking past people and being too scared to look them in the eye. At the time, I only spoke a little Hebrew, so the idea of someone trying to ask me something was a nightmare I didn't want to experience. I continued to look around and noticed that there was a stand where you could buy pastries. I was extremely excited because I had never eaten anything like this in my schools before, and the pastries in Israel were beyond amazing. I looked at the time and I had 10 minutes to find the office before my first class actually
