Essay / The California Split - 1020
The maps have been modified, the design of the American flag has changed and California ceases to be the third largest state in the United States of America. This would not be caused by a dramatic earthquake or natural disaster; instead by a proposal from Silicon Valley venture capitalist Timothy Draper, who believes California is too big a body politic. In December 2013, Draper submitted a state initiative measure proposing that California be divided into six separate states that more accurately represent the politics and values of each region. To summarize part of Draper's government initiative, America's most populous state, California, has a population nearly six times the median population of other states. But a large part of the population lives in urban and coastal areas. California has extremely large and very different economies. Of course, this diversity has meant that political representation has made the state almost ungovernable (Draper). Draper plans to divide California into the following states: Jefferson which will be at the northern tip of California and take part of Oregon with it, Northern California will stretch from Tahoe to Napa, Silicon Valley will encompass San Francisco and the cities surrounding it, Central California. will be the only landlocked state, Western California will be Los Angeles, and Southern California will be the southern tip and San Diego. With all these different states, the plan is for each state to be very different and allow people to choose the state whose politics they like. However, encouraging it could give the impression of having a government more suited to everyone's way of life; This would not change the fact that this split would be an astronomically expensive decision and would depend on statistics, governments and the way people spoke in everyday life. This would be a significant change for America, the most significant since Hawaii joined the United States in 1959. Overall, the Six Californias proposal is an interesting idea to think about and ponder and is well worth it. real, there are people with petitions outside of universities and grocery stores trying to get signatures to put the split on the ballot in 2018. People are hungry for change and enthusiasm and this would enter in history. However, upon review of the facts, this does not benefit Californians or the state, but rather benefits the state's wealthy. You have to wonder if Tim Draper is really doing this for the good of the people or if he is only thinking about his goal of living in the richest state in the United States and having the glory of having been the one who killed the golden bear..
