Immigration, particularly illegal immigration, has been a highly controversial topic since the early 19th century, when thousands of people from Europe and Asia came to America via Ellis and Angel Island. In recent years, the morality of immigration ethics has divided into two arguments, those in favor of open borders and those in favor of closed borders. Immigration, whether legal or illegal, can benefit a country, but it can also destroy it at the same time. Proponents of open borders generally argue that even if increased immigration does not benefit the receiving country, it does not justify exclusion (van der Tilleul 2004). A human right exists when people have freedom of movement and should be allowed to move from one city to another and one country to another, just as immigrants from Asia and Europe were allowed coming to America. Article 13 of the American Declaration of Human Rights states that every person has freedom of movement and residence within the boundaries of each state. And that everyone has the right to leave any country, including their own, and return to it....
