E. B DuBois supports Pan-Africanism, but he was not in favor of Pan-Africanism in a separatist society. Both Dubois and Marcus Garvey were forms of Pan-Africanism, it was the differences in beliefs and methods that would impact the effects of the future. Garvey makes a considerable contribution to increasing recognition and awareness of African struggles. On the other hand, DuBois's Pan-Africanism is, initially, more practical. Garvey did not have a direct connection to an anticolonial agenda, like DuBois. Dubois called for reform of international laws and implementation by the major colonial powers, which would lead to acceptance of the process of decolonization of Africa. These two men made great contributions to Pan-Africanism, but they still faced differences even though they supported the same issue. DuBois favored the creation of a black intellectual ruling class and Garvey never conceived of the problems of capitalism in society. Garvey and the Starline shipping company, the most viewed objective being the transportation of African Americans to Africa for the creation of a nation state.
