  • Essay / The Positivity of No in Scripture - 1333

Words have power. It does not come from the vowels and consonants that form them, nor from the resonance produced in our ears when they are pronounced. The power of words comes from the objects, experiences, ideas and truth they evoke in our minds when we hear them. These connections are powerful and have the ability to move and shape our lives as we respond to words spoken to us or whispered to ourselves. We begin to form these associations as we learn the language. Connections are made in our memories from our experiences with the sound of a word, which then inform the power a word might have in our lives. For example, if a baby touches a hot stove and burns his hand, mom immediately exclaims: "It's HOT, HOT, HOT!" » She will then most likely pick up the child and comfort him. If his burn is more than a slight reddening of the skin, mothers will also treat his wound. All this education will not erase from the child's mind the connection between the pain she felt in her hand and the word Hot. She has now established a connection between the experience of an object and the hot word that will exert power over her for the rest of her life. All anyone around her will need to do in the future when she approaches an object is to call out the word HOT and she will retract her hand to avoid being burned. It’s a wonderful ability we have as humans to use language to communicate meaningful truth to each other. about the objects, experiences, ideas and truth that shape our lives. Part of what unites us as people and communities is the development of a common language that allows a single word to evoke the same idea of what that word represents. It's not the middle of a sheet of paper. ......something much more valuable awaits us in the future. It is better to be intentional and make something happen, rather than seeking to act only when we are sure that the Spirit is leading us. We must have the courage to accept the discomfort of the present moment, in order to grasp the blessing. which only come by following the path of “No”. Then, and only then, will we clearly see the “Yes” that God has prepared for us in advance. When we get there, we will know very well how positive “No” really is. “The Lord is my portion; that is why I will wait for him. - Lamentations 3:24For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10 “Now to Him who is able to do far more than all we ask or think, according to the power that works within us. » - Ephesians 3:20
