Essay / Ethos Pathos, And Logos - 1039
When logos are used, it is to show the public the logic to persuade them through reason. If the facts or information are true and prove a statement in relation to the argument, then it is the use of logos. For example, in the film Twelve Angry Men (1957) directed by Sidney Lumet, an 18-year-old Latino boy is accused of murdering his father. When all the arguments lead him to kill his father, Juror #8 (Henry Fonda) is right in thinking the boy is innocent, leading to long periods of arguing. This scene takes place when Juror #9 (Joseph Sweeny) sees Juror #4 (EG Marshall) rubbing his irritated nose with his glasses. That's when juror #9 asks if juror #4 sleeps with his glasses on and he answers no. Juror #9 suspects that the women had the same glasses marks on their noses that she rubbed just like Juror #8 and, with logical reasoning, she could not see the murder at night if she was asleep and woke up. So when the other jurors change their vote, they vote from guilty to not guilty. Juror #3 (Lee J Cobb) is the only one whose vote is still guilty and all the jurors try to convince Juror #3 that logically, she wouldn't sleep with her. glasses and she couldn't put her glasses on fast enough to see the murder. Ultimately, this argument was successful, and the logo shows that the women did not see the murderer because she did not sleep with her.
