    Expatriation and Repatriation ProgramWhile reviewing a small manufacturing facility, it came to the attention of the committee that the organization does not have a standard procedure for ensuring the success of staff stationed outside the country (AIU Online, 2010). Since the organization has many factories located outside the country and transfer of employees to these factories is a common practice, the solution to this problem must be the top priority of the organization. This is such a common practice that a factory manager will very soon begin this life-changing journey. The Plant Manager's assignment will last three years at a sister plant in Bulgaria (AIU Online, 2010). The desire of this committee is to ensure that the plant manager is truly prepared and successful in this journey. During normal business operations, it may be necessary to send employees to another country. These employees are called expatriate employees. According to Wild, Wild and Han, expatriate employees are “citizens of one country who live and work in another” (2001). Expatriate employees would, however, face many challenges during an assignment; the organization must prepare employees for the challenges that await them. Many challenges would require preparation, such as adapting to the environment and cultural differences (Cuizon, 2010). The best way to prepare for these challenges is to have a strict selection, training and development process in place. During mission preparation, employee selection is extremely important (Anthony, Perrewe, & Kacmar, 1999). The manager, spouse and children must all go through the selection process.
