  • Essay / Living in poor areas - 1181

The loss of many job opportunities in city centers has increased the incentive to sell drugs for a living. This of course led to numerous arrests, leading the head of the family to end up in prison and his poverty continued to worsen as the only inflow of money was seized by law enforcement. “If there had been more opportunities to earn a living, there would have been less drugs, theft and violence” (Falk). Providing poor areas with better chances to succeed and have a better future would have meant an end to the violence, but that is not the case, because the only way to survive in that area is to do what the law deems as bad and most of these people risk their life opportunities just to provide their family with basic family necessities. Poverty is a big step forward in the penal system, because without money, technically, you are nobody and you have to obey everything that is said because you can't afford a lawyer and happens if the judicial system does not rule on its side. Law enforcement takes advantage of these areas because they love to attack someone based on their race and will do anything to put someone in jail. Poverty could disappear if these regions had greater opportunities, just like white people, but in this world, luck depends on one's ability to live.
