Essay / Grendel Compare And Contrast Essay - 1268
Grendel in the epic Beowulf is depicted as a monster, a creature who has no idea who he is killing. In the film Beowulf and Grendel (Gunnarsson 2005); he looks much more like a human. In some parts of the film, thoughts are led to believe that in fact he is not there to kill random people, he is only harming those who "hurt" him. This, in fact, suggests that Grendel of the film really wasn't the bad guy: it shifted to Hrothgar being the bad guy for killing Grendel's father. This has to do with the fact that as we modernize we tend to need a reason to do things, most people won't put up with things if in the end the end result they don't care about. will not benefit. Nonetheless, the film changed the perspective and/or natural outlook a reader might have taken from the film's point of view.
