Essay / Why We Are Activists Analysis of Emmeline Pankhurst
Emmeline Pankhurst: Why We Are ActivistsWomen's right to vote was a very serious thing in American history. He was very popular in America and other countries as well. More and more women began to voice their opinions and express their thoughts on women's suffrage as this era emerged. Their opinions mainly focused on the power they did not have compared to the men of their country. The men in their society had so much power over them and everything about the environment they found themselves in. This injustice bothered many women and they thought they should do something. Women were treated differently because they were not men. Whether they were male or female caused them a lot of problems and it just wasn't fair. Women were not allowed to vote because of this. Gender is the main subject of this speech. Women began to fight against these injustices after World War II. They began to fight to be able to vote with the men of their society. This is how things should have been all along. These men had no problems in their society. Is it because they still hold the power? Maybe. However, that was the problem, because women felt that they should be able to do everything that men could do, equally. Women gave speeches to audiences, hoping to gain “approval” to vote alongside men. They also wrote letters to people who held greater power over them, explaining and demanding answers as to why they felt it was right for women to be treated differently because of their gender. To the speeches and writings are added, on a more physical and violent level, riots and demonstrations. The plan for all the riots, marches, speeches and writing is to move... middle of paper...... men don't have it as hard as women when it comes to their rights and all . She asks, “How is it then that some of you have nothing but ridicule and contempt…for women who fight for exactly the same thing?” Many men at that time, and some still today, believed that women were "too fine and delicate" to be involved in things such as government or politics. Men felt like they should be the ones with all the power and women should do what a woman is supposed to do, like housework and things of that nature. This speech gave women the opportunity to speak out and express themselves. about the rights they deserved in the 1900s. This gave members of society and the government a better understanding of what women were going through and why they deserved their rights, just as much as men of the time..
