Can the MDGs be considered a success? Even though the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will not be achieved by 2015, they cannot be considered a failure but constitute a partial success due to the progress made by the targets. Comprised of eight international development goals, the goals were established in 1990 to combat extreme poverty across a broad range of human rights by 2015. Due to the enormity of the information available on the eight goals , this response will focus on Millennium Goal 4 (MDG4). ) because it illustrates the notion of limited success. Even with accelerated efforts, MDG4 will not reduce under-five mortality rates by two-thirds within the time frame. However, calling this outcome a failure is a superficial assessment that undermines how this goal has galvanized efforts to improve child survival. Key achievements outlined in this response include global reductions in infant and neonatal mortality rates, improved data monitoring, and increased effectiveness and coverage of interventions. Conversely, the criticisms surrounding these achievements highlight the target's inadequacies. Overall, this response claims that MDG4 constitutes a limited success because it has facilitated improvements in children's health and requires further developments to reach the global target. The influence of MDG4 in accelerating the reduction of under-five mortality rates is an important indicator of success. The death of children under the age of five is a major determinant of life expectancy globally, demonstrating why this is such a critical area of ​​study.
