Citigroup Corporate Social Responsibility AssessmentCorporate social responsibility has become a hot term in recent years as companies have become larger and even more powerful. Watchdog organizations have been established to monitor corporate actions and expose “rogue” companies that fail to meet their standards of social responsibility. Recently, many companies have started publishing corporate social responsibility reports alongside their annual reports. Citigroup, a financial services company, is one such company. Citigroup is one of the largest companies in the world. Citigroup offers a wider range of financial services, from insurance to financial advisory service. According to Forbes, Citigroup is the world's largest financial services company with more than $130 billion in revenue worldwide. The company is 14th on the Forbes 100 list and employs more than 300,000 employees. Perhaps most importantly, the company was listed by Fortune magazine as one of the 50 Most “Responsible” Companies in 2007. Citigroup's rankings are based on the extent to which Citi has integrated responsible practices into its operations and how it reports on the effects of its actions on stakeholders. Citigroup also made the list in 2006. In her summary on corporate citizenship, Pamela Flaherty, director of corporate citizenship at Citigroup, highlights three initiatives Citigroup is undertaking to make a positive impact on society.
