She lies to the bank to avoid being charged a "$60 overdraft fee", an outright lie. She doesn't tell her husband the truth about his day so he doesn't "break down," a white lie. She lies to her clients to avoid getting fired for telling the truth about why she was late. She lies to her friends so that their feelings won't be hurt (Ericsson 181). All of this is justifiable because of intent. There are consequences for telling the truth in these cases and so Ericsson must lie to avoid the consequences.
