Survey Design This survey focuses on the influence of the United States on the Iranian National Revolution of 1978-1979. Topics studied include the sociocultural and political differences between the two countries that contributed to the revolution and the impact of the actions of the leaders of the two nations on the outcome of the conflict. The underlying interests of the United States are considered and linked to its actions in the struggle, while post-revolutionary interactions between the two countries are not included in this investigation. In this investigation, several sources detailing conditions in Iran before the revolution will be used to identify the factors leading to its revolt. To reach a conclusion as to the true extent of U.S. influence on the Iranian Revolution, other sources detailing specific events that occurred during the revolution will also be used.B. Summary of EvidenceAt the beginning of the 19th century, the discovery of oil in Iran aroused the interest of Western countries (Stock).
