The hope is that his voice alone can shed new light on a list of statistics, that the world will feel a much deeper impact when viewing the torments of the Holocaust , rather than just seeing the numbers and moving on. As you read line after line and memory after memory, you can almost hear your own heart breaking with each turn of the page. My heart will always ache for the innocent lives lost and the battles that should not have been necessary. A quote from the novel will forever be etched in my mind: “I will never forget that night, the first night in camp, which turned my life into one long night sealed seven times. I will never forget that smoke. I will never forget the little faces of the children whose bodies I saw turn into smoke under a silent sky. I will never forget the nocturnal silence which deprived me for eternity of the desire to live. I will never forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams into ashes. I will never forget these things, even if I were condemned to live as long as God himself. Never” (p34). I will never forget the courage of Wiesel and I will never forget that the Holocaust
