Essay / Move Forward: Push ny Sapphire - 657
Tragedies happen every day and most people don't know it. There are many serious problems that the world is almost unaware of. Why would we let something so traumatic happen to people like us? It seems inhumane. The novel Push by Sapphire is a fictional story about a young girl named Precious who is raped and sexually abused in her home. As the story progresses, Precious eventually goes to school and begins to rebuild a life she wants and deserves. I strongly believe that this novel should be read by young readers because it gives an idea of what reality is really like for people, it contains so much information that can lead to preventing horrible events like the ones in this book, and for young people. This prepares readers for perseverance in real-world situations. Sapphire does an incredible job of making this story authentic. She makes sure there is just enough detail to get the point across, but not so much that the reader loses interest. By doing this, she is able to put a picture in the reader's mind of a way to avoid the situations that Precious goes through in Push. I completely agree with the way Sapphire wrote this and how she subtly weaved her opinions into the theme of the book. The way she sends Precious to school even after being raped by her father gives the character hope. This, for me, made me think about what could happen if Precious graduated and got a job and what her life would be like. I think this kind of thinking while reading a book can really be used to solve real world problems that are happening right now. People's lives can be very nasty and harsh sometimes and I think the human race doesn't like that. ..... middle of paper ...... well put together and will not always go smoothly. Reading Push really opened my eyes to how to think about the future to prepare myself for the real world and I would encourage my peers to read it as well. Reading the novel Push really gave me new insight into other people's lives. and how others can really make a difference. The fiction book creates an idea of what reality is really like for people, it contains so much information that can lead to preventing horrible events like the ones in this book, and for young readers it prepares them for the perseverance in real-world situations. I highly encourage others to read this book and keep it on the pre-AP list. I would tell the reader to have a very open mind when reading because it seems strange at first to read something so horrible, but it really pays off over time. over if you give it a chance.
